Timothy J. Daskivich, MD, MSHPM, is Assistant Professor of Urology in the Cedars-Sinai Urology Academic Program and Surgical Urologic Oncologist in the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center . His clinical practice includes surgical treatment of cancers of the prostate, kidney, bladder and testis, with a focus on prostate cancer. Dr. Daskivich completed a fellowship in urologic oncology, and he is comprehensively trained in open, laparoscopic and robotic approaches to surgical treatment of urologic cancer.  Dr. Daskivich’s expertise extends to novel focused therapeutics for prostate cancer. He specializes in the use of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) for treatment of prostate cancer. HIFU is used to heat and destroy targeted tissue during an outpatient procedure; individually customized for each patient’s prostate cancer treatment.  For appropriate patients it is a safe option in place of radiation or surgery and avoids long term complications.

Dr. Daskivich’s research efforts are highly integrated into his clinical practice, with the overarching goal of optimizing both cure of cancer and quality of life for his patients.  Through his clinical practice he enhances a passion for health services research, a topic that addresses cost, quality and efficiency of healthcare. His federally-funded research program focuses on life expectancy and its role in treatment decision-making for men with early stage prostate cancer. His work promotes a more personalized approach to care to reduce unnecessary overtreatment, while targeting treatment to those who need it. His research has been published in Annals of Internal Medicine, Cancer, JAMA Surgery, JAMA Oncology, European Urology, and the Journal of Urology. His nationally recognized work has received funding from the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute, Department of Defense, American Cancer Society, and the American Urological Association. He was also given the AUA/Urology Care Foundation Rising Stars in Urology Research award in 2018.
