Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the second most common form of cancer in women and begins with the development of a cancerous tumor within the breast tissue that grows and can spread (metastasize) across the body. Cancer.org estimates that in 2020 over 276,000 invasive forms of breast cancer will be diagnosed in women with an anticipated 42,000 deaths as a result. Rarely, this cancer also develops in men and there are over 2600 expected cases to be diagnosed in American men in 2020, over 500 of these are anticipated to be fatal.

There are several types of breast cancer and like other forms of cancer early detection and diagnosis is essential to achieve the highest possible chance for a cure. There are several diagnostic tests available for breast cancer screening with mammograms still considered to be the gold standard and self examinations at home are encouraged for women to perform at least monthly. The advancements in screening technology have allowed for patients to receive these services at little to no out of pocket cost.
