Dr. Harmik J. Soukiasian, MD, FACS is currently Professor of Surgery and the Tawil Family Endowed Chair in Thoracic Surgery, Vice Chairman of the Department of Surgery, in charge of Clinical Outreach, Director of the division of Thoracic Surgery, Program Director of our Advanced Robotic Thoracic Surgery Fellowship and the Associate Director of the Cardio-Thoracic Residency Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Dr. Soukiasian received his medical degree from the University of Southern California (USC) School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, after which, he went on to training in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He then went on to additional fellowship training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) followed by another fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Dr. Soukiasian ushered in thoracic robotic surgery at Cedars-Sinai, performing the first robotic lobectomy at the institution. His program has become among the busiest and most innovative thoracic programs in the western United States. Dr. Soukiasian utilizes the Davinci Xi Robot to perform advanced anatomic lobar and anatomic sub-lobar resections as well as advanced mediastinal and esophageal surgery. Dr. Soukiasian was part oof FDA trial for the use of the Intuitive Single Port SP robot in thoracic surgery and is now the first surgeon in the Western United States to use the Intuitive Single Port SP robot into thoracic surgery to perform anatomic lung resections and mediastinal mass / thymic resections.
Dr. Soukiasian is on the editorial board for The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (JTCVS) and as a reviewer for Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy, Journal of Intensive Care Medicine, and The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
Dr. Soukiasian serves on the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS) Thoracic Surgical Robotics Fellowship committee. He is also on the editorial board for The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (JTCVS) and as a reviewer for Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy, Journal of Intensive Care Medicine, and The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. Dr, Soukiasian serves as an abstract reviewer for all major annual thoracic surgery meetings, the AATS, STS, and ISMICS. Dr. Soukiasian is on the program committee for the STS annual meeting in 2025.
